How to further your career amidst office politics

In any organization, it is naive to expect that a policy free zone utopian. Business schools can not prepare for the manipulation and mind games in the game in a startup company.

Author Ravi Subramanian and banker says you accept that office politics will shape their   growth, or can sport an unfavorable attitude, defeatist. He says: "People who complain about the policy are, more often than not, people who have played politics and lost the game."

Toughen UP
You could, of course, choose the higher moral ground and stay away from office politics. "But," says Ravi, "saying," I'm not interested in politics "is no guarantee that people will leave you alone. The policy of stability will emerge as an easy target and go after you."

This is probably why his colleagues are watching:
To protect its territory at work
There are much better than they really are
               Gain Popularity
Increase the perception of leadership skills and abilities on the task at hand
To protect their jobs in a hostile work environment
To show loyalty to an individual and therefore, use this alliance to gain favor
Women with very satisfactory results become subject to political manipulation. Character assassinations, sexual harassment, etc are some tools used against women. Mind Games

If you win, you must be mentally prepared to take the big ones. Ravi gives tips:

There is no middle ground. Once it is marked as one, people will always be on guard around him.
Always choose their political battles with someone who can match the insight and wisdom. Or choose a weaker opponent. Never pick the battles for another person.
Stop being defensive about being political. I can not think of a president who has not used the policy to succeed.
Politics is not a substitute for integrity. Do not run by people, not compromise the characters of people. You can get into trouble.
Many people are baying for his blood, so be sure to get the job.
Strategies

Scenario 1: Your colleague is inciting against his boss, highlighting weaker traits, establishing a negative interpretation of their observations and make personal comments.

Solution: It is better to communicate through. Make sure you get all the achievements documented. Identify the priority issues for your boss and be sure to follow those. This gives you the moral authority when you give birth and then confront.

Scenario 2: You can win or lose a promotion in terms of how to use the vine. Ravi explained with an example of how the dissemination of information is a political weapon: Before climbing a former colleague, told everyone that he is the company's choice between two candidates, although there was an ad officer

Solution: In this case, as the buzz grew, the leaders thought it was a good candidate and promoted. Politics is about planting the information you want people to hear. Misinformation deliberately planted in the ears of the pet from your employer to ensure that news travels.

Scenario 3: Last year, before assessing his colleague threatened to quit and was offered a big raise to stay. In case concerned a rise this year better or for promotion?

Solution: There is no harm in the performance of this card, but is risky. Time is important and we must assess its position of strength. If not, there will be no loss of prestige.

Scenario 4: His partner is a gifted series.

Solution: Your colleague gifts to your boss a bottle of whiskey, maybe you can give two. But where to stop? Either commit or quit. Remember, these employees do not last as their reputation catches up with them.

Case Study
Ravi shares a classic case of manipulation, "human resources professional who knew that he would talk to all direct reports of the PPP (public sector finances) head in the ability of a business partner of human resources. Then, yelled the head of the SSP on the issues entrusted to it.

Often, this would be the land of the direct reports of trouble. She said he was on the right side of the head of the PFS, and uses that relationship to curry favor with his boss, who in turn had a great relationship with the head of the SSP. Over time direct reports saw through this and stopped to talk to her about controversial issues, but what it set out to get it done. She has an upward motion and given greater responsibilities.

His policy worked in his favor. "Ravi Subramanian is the author of The Banker incredible and currently president and chief executive of a non-banking financial company.
